Foreign sovereign funds

I have some concerns about foreign sovereign funds buying heavy stocks in big western companies. Does this means controlling other countries economic assets. Does it have any political influence.

SWF are large investment pools or reservoirs of cash.. usually in US dollars.. [because the world currency is at the moment US dollars].. held by foreign countries for use as future reference...
