Court Rules UBS Data Transfer to US Illegal

A Swiss court has ruled that the handing over of confidential UBS bank details to United States investigators by the Swiss authorities last year was illegal.

The federal administrative court said the Swiss Financial and Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) abused its power when it ordered that details of 285 account holders suspected of tax evasion in the US be sent to Washington.

YEA for the Swiss !!! Way to go !!!

When you open a Swiss bank account you are placing your money into a country that both politically and financially is very safe and there are bank accounts there even for the little guy.

2008: Zurich, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - Switzerland’s net investment earnings are negative for the first time since the Swiss National Bank (SNB) began compiling statistics in 1947, ironically, as a record trade surplus was posted for 2008. Losses from Swiss banks’ foreign subsidiaries caused 2008 income from direct investment abroad to fall sharply, from CHF60 to 8 billion.
2009: More bank earning reports out of Europe this morning. Switzerland's largest bank, UBS, is posting a higher than expected loss of more than $1.3 billion dollars for its second quarter.
The banks last year posted record losses stemming from the financial crisis that threatened to bankrupt at least one of them, UBS, which needed a government bailout to survive, while posing serious problems for the national economy.
2010: A Swiss bank is being sued for $24 billion by property owners who claim it schemed to defraud investors in several development resorts in the US including the bankrupted Yellowstone Club.

I found a Swiss Bank that will accept clients for just $1,000 and no maintenance fees. I found another one that will accept $5,000 but there are quarterly fees.

American's are having a much more difficult time opening accounts there and Swiss banks are refusing them unless you have $1,000,000.

So it is better for the American who has $1,000 or more to open up an account at a safe bank outside of Switzerland.
