How do you calculate the actual or real interest rate on a bond investment?

Bonds are in the main investments for income, shares for growth or capital appreciation. So it depends what you want, which may depend on your age. If you are nearing retirement or retired, you would more than likely want income, therfore bpnds. If you wer in your twenties or working age you woul more than likely niot want income, rather growth.
