Market Indices are a dime a dozen across the globe though there are several versions that stand out globally. These are the market leaders and are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to trading of commodities across the globe. These Indices are available in most major economies and though the operations are done using more or less the same standards the types of companies listed on them tend to be writing different. There are several versions of Indices across the globe and these include the full capitalization price Indices, the float adjusted price and the equal weight among others.
Though the terms are highly technical they all have their advantages and disadvantages with regards to trading. The main difference between these indices is the way they are weighted. Weighing with regards to Indices relates to the price of each component stock in the market. As an example, there is the price weighted index where the only consideration is the price of the stock or commodity that is being sold. When the main consideration is the price of the commodity then every minor shift in the price has a huge impact on the value of the stocks that have been held by a company or individual. On the other hand there is the capitalization weighted index whose main consideration is the size of the company. The Hang Seng Index is one of the markets that follow this format. The market value weighted index on the other hand focuses on the total weighted value of their outstanding shares. All these Indices are readily available for trade to the different clients and the more effective the respective agents are the more the clients benefit. Examples of capitalization-weighted Indices include the NASDAQ Composite index, S&P 500 and the IBEX 35 index. All these are open to global patterns regardless of the company's domicile. |
