For the first time ever, BitCoin seems to be reaching 11 USD for 1 BTC. This makes BitCoin the most valuable monetary unit to hold in the world, even beating the Kuwait currency.
For anyone that likes to speculate in currencies BitCoin is the way to go, as it has seen a 20% increase or more in the past 5 days. Speculators, get going because this is the next gold! |

There are a number of places you can buy BitCoin at, most of them require some technical know-how of things, or requires you wander into the "dark" world of finances and use exotic payment systems (exotic to those not used to them) to exchange BitCoin.
The very very easiest is to go to Mtgox.com and make an account. Then load the account with Liberty Reserve, as that is instant. Problem is that you most likely do not have a Liberty Reserve account and you need to load that. Then you need to find someone that exchanges money into Liberty Reserve, which are plenty. On the other hand, on IRC hundreds of people are trading BitCoin OTC, and you can buy with PayPal, if you care to pay overprice. At the time of this post paying for 1 BTC goes for anything from 20 USD to 30 USD, depending on the sellers on the IRC chat room. Alternatively if you can wait, there is wire option to send a wire to MtGox or any exchangers and then get BitCoin that way. Do some research on the topic, its definitly possible and the crowd is growing by the day in offering/demand, but at the moments since the currency is just spreading ways of getting it can seem limited to the more established systems. Good luck! |

And it did happen. The largest crash ever measured in the BitCoin economy happened during the past two days from this post. BitCoin reached an astonishing 32$ per BTC and then took a massive quick drop down to 10$ per BTC. Thats more than 33% drop in less than 48 hours, and no doubt people got rich and poor on this.
Right now the price has been correcting itself some more and is at the time of this post almost at 19$. |

No and there probably never will be, since its an unregulated commodity/currency with no central authority to control the price.
Right now all the exchanges more or less each trade at the bid/offer price that is happening at them. This is somehow good since you can get yourself a good deal at one portal compared to what an other portal is trading BTC at. But its also bad since you can end up with a worse price. Alternatively for selling BTC the best prices are right now on IRC on the OTC chat where they go for 3$-5$ higher than what the price is at mtgox.com |
