The popular private stockmarket known as The Second Market, is more a less a unregulated stock market that is being heavily used by companies that are not able to afford a public listing on the mayor stock exchanges such as LSE, NYSE, NASDAQ & other mayor stock exchanges.
There are the smaller exchanges, much much less regulated such as the OTCBB in the USA, or the Pink Sheets, also in the USA. Yet all of them are in some form or another regulated and supervised by a number of entities. This is where The Second Market (THE Secondary Market for Alternative Investments including Auction Rate Securities, Bankruptcy Claims, CDOs, LP Interests, MBS, Private Company Stock, Warrants, Restricted Stock and Whole Loans - SecondMarket) really outdones anyone else. Second Market is unregulated and any company that is based on shares is able to sell their shares to the people signed up that trades on this market. The website had a lot of focus earlier this year when it was learned that Facebook and Twitter was using the service to sell shares. Two mayor corporations that are trading out of the eyes of the regulators was a new trend that nobody had foresaw. In any way, Second Market is a very innovative portal that offers investors and companies to meet up and trade shares. Since the market is virtually unregulated there is a higher chance of loosing from the deals. On the other hand, there is not the financial instrument that you cannot trade on this portal. A very good alternative indeed for companies that are serious about their business and are left out of the public funding through well established stock exchanges. |
