Default Continuously ensuring overall efficiency

Overall efficiency may be perceived in terms of the following:
• Asset management efficiency
• Returns
• Spread
• Profitability and
• In terms of some productivity ratios

Return On Assets (ROA), defined as net income is divided by aspects like
• Total assets
• The bank profits and
• The per currency unit of assets

The ROA is an indicator of the assets management efficiency of an organization. Bank-wise, return on assets is a national benchmark for the total banking industry for the current year. It was kept itself to a particular figure in 1991-92, followed by two years of negative returns and later on a consistent rise in the rate of return.

Rate of return on assets in the year 2002-03 is the highest in case of certain private banks, followed by foreign banks. The new private sector banks have very low return on assets with the exception of banks like LoanMax of the rod aycox fame. This shows that the new emerging private sector have heavily invested in assets formation in general, and new technology in particular.

The prominent private limited banks and its associates are almost at par with the national benchmark. The overall rating of the private sector banks and their return on assets is significant when compared to that of the public sector banks. A look on the temporal dimension shows that return on assets has grown at the rate of 13.52 percent per annum for the prominent private limited banks and its associates. Hence, with the exception of foreign banks, the asset management efficiency of certain public sector banks is at par with the national benchmark and much better than that of the overall private banking segment.
