i want to invest my money in a secure account with a high interest yield. i dont know much about banking and investments since i never dealt with it before. i just want to know the difference between a cd, ira, and a money market account and which one will be the best investment for me and my family's future.

Hi well I have been investing for 15 years now successfully and I would reccommend some simple free investing advice which is invaluble before you invest. As their are many ways to invest money whether it is £10 or £10000. Choose the best method of investing which suits you and gives a good return on your investment which meets your requirements. Feel free to contact for any questions you may have. With Kind Regards.

Hi,

I tried to give a very basic explanation regarding the money market accounts and CDs. But I don't know much about IRA.

Money market accounts are offered by banks and credit unions. Most of the time they are like savings accounts. But normally they pay a higher interest. And they also have a higher minimum balance requirements. I think most of the time these accounts allow you to write 2 to 3 cheques a month.

A CD is also something similar to a savings account. But they are insured so they are virtually considered risk free. Another difference is that they have a specific time period in which you can not withdraw money. The primary amount and the interest has to be taken back after the maturity.

And you can find loads of information online which would enable you to get a good idea about each of these.

It is very difficult to determine the best investment ahead of time. For most of us, virtually impossible. I can suggest some investments though that are reasonably good and reasonably safe that pay dividends that are much more than what a CD will pay and hopefully will also possibly offer come capital gain potential too. Now if you are thinking of investing 10k, it is safer to not invest it all in just one investment but to pick maybe 5 different investments. Reduces the risk considerably.

It’s always hard to say which investment is the best. Only time will tell so you can only estimate the potential of an investment. The best way to go is to do some research and gain some understanding of the investment option.

The main benefit is that investments in IRA’s grow tax-deferred. This means that earnings are not taxed each year – they’re reinvested for more growth. This keeps your investments working harder and allows your money to compound.

Another potential benefit is the ability to deduct contributions from your taxable income. This allows you to pay taxes on less money in the current year, even though you saved it and have it as an asset. Not all IRA’s have this feature, and not every taxpayer can enjoy this benefit, but it can be helpful for some.
