We invested on bank stocks before.. It's been more than 10 years, and we dont quite get even half of what we invested on it. This bank was bought by another huge bank, but prior to that, the bank merged with another struggling bank.. so maybe that explains our failure to make money.

So, I guess you need to be very knowledgable about the market and stocks before investing.. and that I need to learn.

I guess you don't need to be expert in this kind of investment for you to start, you can hire someone who can do the work. a little knowledge would to do job, you just need to set your goals before you start your investment.

The real money is in real estate ... hence why it is called "real".

I agree with you. Land value will never fall, if it does, it'll be with only a 10% margin. Investing in lands, very close or on the outskirts, of a capital city or a metropolitan city is a very good idea.

There was a recent fall in use of flats due to the earthquakes, but that was only a temporary trough... Flats are becoming once again popular, so buying flats in posh and important cities and renting them out is one of the best ways to invest ...

Yeah. What I said applies to only earthquake-prone areas. In General, there's near zero risk.
Moreover, if you're able to buy/construct flats in posh areas of ordinary cities or even in the heart of new cities, you can rent them out for good prices. This is certainly an investment.
Recently, there was a whole new city called "Cyber city" just constructed. The prices of land, rent value of malls and buildings there could compete with that of the Capital. Automatically, the well off population gets clustered there as the entire city is well designed to suit all conveniences.

Nope. Well, yes. But still no.
The initial capital is sure to be high depending upon your tastes. But after that, once you start renting them out, every month you get a good source of income.

A couple of acquaintances of mine, have bough and rented out some flats after taking a loan (location is Bombay), and they're doing pretty well. Or rather, i should say they're doing outstandingly well. Maybe I should use the term "minting money".

Trust me, in good locations, it's a short-term investment (short as in, you can make more money than you spent in a couple of years). Capitals and Metropolitan cities are the best locations.

But if you're talking about land, yes, that's a long term investment. You may have to wait for 10 years for the land price to really hit the skies. But it's worth it as well. For those who don't know trading, this is good.
Almost anyone can do it.
