Working in a B2B sales environment is always challenging and extremely competitive. A sales driven floor is there to close business and make money on a daily basis. But before it gets to this point, clients need to know about the existence of this business. For that to happen the marketing department needs to be in place, giving direction to business development.
Marketing is crucial for the success of any sales operation. Going back to basics, every company needs to get involved in developing the four P’s prior to creating its B2B sales strategy. If the company is offering a service it gets even more complicated as there are more P’s added to the original four. Marketing exists to make the lives of sales people easier, to ease the transitional process between initial touch to closing business. Hitting the market successfully is the dream of every entrepreneur. Before turning the dream into reality though, the entrepreneur needs a defined target audience, defined route to market, defined pricing policy, defined promotion schedule, defined deliverable. Once all this is in place, the sales function takes over. Marketing lays the foundation for sales to build upon. In order for sales to be successful, finding and retaining sales talent is crucial. Once talent is in place and ready to act, the start button gets pressed and the strategy gets implemented. Sales cannot function without an accurate plan and strategy developed by marketing. If the marketing function is not in place, actively assisting sales along the way, closing business will be extremely tough and almost impossible. Clients prefer working with a well known and trusted brand. In order to achieve that a company needs to market its products/services, sell them and make money.
