Buying Equities: How could make money from it?

I personally buying/selling stocks for ten years.Recently a question cross my mind - if I am not buy low and sell hight, can I make money from the equities trading?The reason I am asking myself is that how could investors make money from the equities trading if they are long-term buying-holding investors?
Suppose every investors are behaved like warrent buffett, long term holding, where the profit will come from?Do they have to buy dividends equities and that is the only way to make money?
