Thumbs up Paypal Merchants with More Protection - Expanded Seller Protection

Sarah Livnat, Paypal has updated on the upcoming Expanded Seller Protection, and what to expect from them. On summary in a nutshell,
  • No more confirmed address. Merchants can ship to whichever address the buyer provides them through PayPal whether it is confirmed or not.
  • No more coverage limit. The coverage payout limit under the Seller Protection Policy is $5,000 per year. Expanded seller protection has no limit.
  • Coverage in more places around the world. Coverage is now extended to the 190 markets supported by PayPal, so merchants can ship to customers wherever they are.
  • No additional integration required. Merchants won’t need to go through any additional integration steps or change their checkout experience to take advantage of the additional protection.

The changes will take place first with eBay power sellers in US, UK, Canada and Hong Kong (wonder why Singapore isn’t in). It’s actually a part of the huge installment that’s coming in for eBay/ Paypal for earlier this January to nudge a level higher for Power Sellers with their own rating system.

The team definitely have been working on the legislation part to boost the quality of sellers in eBay. The perks look pretty.

That's what I like best about PayPal, accepting in eBay.com because eBay do not allow any other currency only credit cards and PayPal.
Moreover, PayPal is accepted in 80% of shopping websites, the main markets are:
eBay, Amazon, Skype, Buy.com, Alapage...

This is obviously done for promotional purposes...
Paypal was established in 1998 (others say it was founded in 1999 under the name Confinity), and it was purchased by eBay a few years later in 2002. It cost eBay a whopping $1.5 billion dollars to acquire the payment processing company. Paypal is now located in Mountain View, California.

Regulators and attorney generals in several states, including New York and California, fined PayPal for violations and investigated the company's business practices. Some states, such as Louisiana, banned PayPal from operating in their states altogether. This is old news. Now have acquired license in all these states. And they continue to make Paypal more secure .. also earn a lot of profit from it ...

Well PayPal is such a successful e-currency.
Even "Oprah Winfery" show had mentioned PayPal and his benefits, especially with the increase of credit cards online frauds.
PayPal came in the right time, that's why they spread quickly, but in the last few months we saw many digital currenciesbeing openned such as AlertPay and Liberty Reserve which could be the beginning of the end for PayPal.

I agree with you, many people expressed their anger towards PayPal in YouTube and MySpace videos, just type "PayPal" in YouTube search box and see for yourself, many videos talking about people who got "scammed" by PayPal and eBay.

Yep. Paypal has taken one more step to improve customer experience as enough buyers have told eBay and PayPal that shopping on eBay can be a hassle and for this reason they’re not coming back to shop as often as they used to.

Safer Payments is aimed at increasing buyers’ use of eBay by making safe, familiar payment methods more widely available. By doing this, it is less likely that buyers will experience fraud or unresponsive sellers, and more likely that if they do they will have recourse to fix any issues or problems that may arise. So, that’s why this week the following changes have gone into effect on eBay in the US:

1. Sellers or items that meet one or more of the following conditions will be required to offer PayPal or a major credit card.
  • the seller has higher than 5% buyer dissatisfaction rates
  • the seller has less than 100 feedback
  • the items are listed in categories with higher rates of buyer complaints, including: Gift Certificates, Video Games, Cell Phones, Computers and Consumer Electronics

2. To protect buyers in the very small percentage of situations where eBay and PayPal believe that a transaction is likely to result in a dissatisfied buyer, PayPal will delay the release of funds to a seller for up to 21 days. The funds will appear in the seller’s account as pending and will be released if there is no dispute filed by a buyer within 21 days. The funds may be released earlier if the buyer leaves positive feedback, or if PayPal can confirm delivery of the item.

3. Finally, a new incentive for PowerSellers: expanded seller protection from PayPal. As you may know, the criteria for becoming a PowerSeller has recently changed. Sellers qualify for PowerSeller benefits only when they provide excellent service to buyers. And as a reward for that service, PowerSellers in the US now enjoy expanded seller protection on eBay.

Improving the buyer experience also means that eBay will reward sellers who deliver great service to buyers. That’s why I urge all sellers reading this, especially the very few who have a payment held, to implement ecommerce best practices such as offering safe electronic payment methods, shipping promptly, communicating clearly, using tracking for shipments, and providing that tracking to your buyers and to PayPal.
The fastest way to have a payment hold released is to deliver the item to the buyer with tracking and provide PayPal with the tracking number. And the best way to rejuvenate sales growth on the eBay marketplace is for sellers to work as hard as possible to provide great experiences to their buyers.
