How the scammer know your email address and thus send you the above email. I believe you must have participated some programs which is run by the admin who is also the scammer. Maybe you can highlight some programs from that to us here.

Maybe that scammer got his email from soem people who sell some list. Must be some of you already join some ptc, hyip or autosurf program right? Many people buy some list and spam mail to us. So, alert with that..

Default Iconix® eMail ID

Paypal has finally brought out a tool to help identify if your e-mail is really from them or not. Check it out:

Ever wonder if that PayPal email is real?
We’re working with Iconix to bring you Iconix eMail ID, which can reduce phishing by confirming whether or not an email is really from PayPal.

And it’s free.

Just download the tool – it works with most major email services.
When you get an authentic email from PayPal, you'll see an Iconix eMail ID icon: a gold lock with a check mark.
Worried about phishing? Get Iconix eMail ID today.

Yea, it'll be pretty useful if you deal with paypal a lot, or if you're unsure if the mail really is from paypal.

Default My experience with a Paypal hacker

This is little old. Though it is old, information and warning is worth forever. I had to face a paypal account hacker. But saved my account from being stolen by him. It had 200 big bucks then. Thank god it is saved.

I saw this forum. That it would be useful if I post this topic here

First of all, Be it Paypal, Alertpay E-Gold or any payment processor, if you get a mail from them or pretending to be them and ask you to click on any link, First see if the link is properly going to the payment processor website. If you place your mouse in that link in the mail, it would show where the link goes to, in the left bottom corner of the browser.

So, this is the fake fraudulent mail I got today to steal my Paypal account.

Dear PayPal Costumer,

It has come to our attention that your PayPal® account information needs to be updated as part of our continuing commitment to protect your account and to reduce the instance of fraud on our website. If you could please take 5-10 minutes out of your online experience and update your personal records you will not run into any future problems with the online service.

However, failure to update your records will result in account suspension. Please update your records before July 07,2008.

Once you have updated your account records, your PayPal® account activity will not be interrupted and will continue as normal.

Click here to update your PayPal account information
When I clicked on that link it went to a website http://unichrist.net/ and not to Paypal.

So about fraudulent mails and activities, Paypal says,
Quote:
Look for a PayPal Greeting: PayPal will never send an email with the greeting "Dear PayPal User" or "Dear PayPal Member." Real PayPal emails will address you by your first and last name or the business name associated with your PayPal account. If you believe you have received a fraudulent email, please forward the entire email—including the header information—to spoof@paypal.com
Take care. It's YOUR money.

As for me, I never pay attention to paypal emails. I just log on directly to my account. Moreover,I never stock money on it, I always transfer my fund to my bank account. If ever you received scam email, file a complaint to Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) to trach them down.

Thanks for all this information. Sadly, when it comes to sending the fraudulent emails--I believe they just randomly pick emails---paypal has 1000's of customers---so for the person committing the fraud--he has a pretty good chance of getting someone with an paypal account if he just randomly puts in emails.

It is a pain if you fall for the emails. I did--1 time and 1 time only. Luckily--paypal was on top of it because the person tried to gain access to my account and paypal locked it down until I could call and really confirm that it was my account. Just always be aware that their are many fraudulent people on the net.
