The main difference between a virtual credit card and a plastic credit card is basically the physically holding of the card.

Having a plastic card gives you extra advantages when it comes to bookings as some may require that you show the card used to book the hotel or the airplane. In most cases it does not happen, but when it does it is a good idea to have your plastic credit card on you.

In all cases when renting a car a plastic credit card is always necessary as they need physical confirmation of the card holder.

The good thing although by having a virtual credit card is that it usually differs from your regular credit card in the number. This gives you an extra layer of protection for you when you carry a virtual credit card.

When booking online it is usually a good thing using a virtual credit card as those accounts are separate from your credit card account. In some instances the bank even gives you a credit card generator to create virtual credit cards on the fly with a fixed amount for a fixed purchase.
