It is quiet unsafe to use a debit or credit card at a swiper machine. It is a very easy and timing saving process but at the same time quiet unsafe as well as the details of the card gets stored in the swiper machine and anyone with an negative intention can retrieve the personal information from the machine and misuse it in the future.
I would rather suggest to pay cash than to swipe a card unless the shopping place is quiet well known to you.
